Our board-certified providers offer pre-surgical clearances at convenient locations throughout Hillsborough, Pinellas, Pasco, Lee, and Charlotte counties.
As of September 1st, 2026, walk-ins are accepted for pre-surgical clearances, so you do not need an appointment to be seen. Prefer to have a visit scheduled? You can still make an appointment by contacting Client Services at clientservices@fasttrackurgentcare.com or 813-395-9322. Whichever option works better for you, bring your surgeon’s orders, authorization, and supporting documentation so our team has what it needs to complete your evaluation.

What Does a Pre-Surgical Clearance Include?
A pre-surgical clearance, also called a pre-operative medical evaluation, helps determine whether you are medically fit to proceed with your planned surgery. Your provider will consider your current health alongside the procedure you are preparing for and the requirements provided by your surgeon. No two evaluations are exactly alike. Depending on your health and your surgeon’s orders, your clearance may include:
- Medical history review: Current medications, allergies, previous surgeries, existing health conditions, and other relevant information.
- Physical examination: An assessment of your current health and any concerns that could affect your upcoming procedure.
- Laboratory testing: Blood work, urine testing, or other labs requested for your clearance.
- EKG: An electrocardiogram may be required depending on your procedure and medical needs.
- Diagnostic imaging: Your surgeon may request a chest X-ray or other imaging before surgery.
Pre-operative lab work may include HCG, urinalysis, glucose, MRSA screening, HbA1c, CBC, BMP/CMP, PT/PTT with INR, and additional testing when appropriate.
The goal is to give your surgical team the information it needs while identifying anything that may require attention before your procedure.
Come Prepared With Your Surgeon’s Orders
Whether you walk in or schedule your visit ahead of time, bringing the right paperwork can help avoid unnecessary delays. Please bring:
- Your surgeon’s orders or referral paperwork
- Any required authorization
- Supporting documentation from your surgeon or referring office
- Documents that may be helpful for insurance approval
- A current list of prescription and over-the-counter medications
- Allergy information
- Relevant medical history and previous surgery information
- Any preparation or testing instructions you received
If something on your order isn’t clear, our team will contact the referring office to get the information needed. If it can’t be clarified at that time, you may need to return for a future visit once the correct information is available. If you’ve been instructed to fast before certain testing, be sure to follow the instructions provided by your healthcare professional.
Need an EKG or X-Ray Before Surgery?
Some surgical clearances require more than a physical exam and lab work. If your surgeon has requested an EKG, chest X-ray, or other testing, bring those orders with you. If your EKG needs to be performed in-house at TGH Urgent Care powered by Fast Track, that requires a provider visit to determine appropriate testing and treatment. Third-party EKG orders – ones already completed elsewhere – are accepted without requiring an in-house provider visit; just bring the order with you.
X-ray availability varies by location. If the X-ray your surgeon requires isn’t available at the clinic you visit, our team may direct you to another TGH Urgent Care powered by Fast Track location that can complete the imaging or arrange for you to return for a future visit. Want to know more about why your surgeon may request certain testing? Read our guide to understanding pre-surgical clearances and what you need to know.
What Will Your Pre-Surgical Clearance Cost?
For both elective and non-elective procedures, we will first attempt to bill your insurance. If insurance does not cover the clearance, the visit will become the patient’s responsibility. A card on file is required for pre-surgical clearance visits.
If you have an authorization or supporting documentation that may help with insurance approval, bring it with you so our team has the information available when needed.
Pre-Surgical Clearances for Workers’ Compensation
If your clearance is related to a Workers’ Compensation procedure, authorization needs to be verified through our Client Services team before your visit. If authorization can’t be verified right away, your visit will be scheduled at least two business days out to allow enough time for review. If there is an issue obtaining authorization, Client Services will contact you directly and reschedule the visit if necessary. For questions about a Workers’ Compensation pre-surgical clearance, contact Client Services at clientservices@fasttrackurgentcare.com or 813-395-9322.
How Long Does Pre-Surgical Clearance Take?
The appointment is only one part of the clearance process. Your provider may also need to review lab or imaging results, complete documentation, communicate with your surgeon’s office, or determine whether additional testing or follow-up is needed. Because of these additional steps, please allow up to seven days for turnaround. Coming in well before your scheduled surgery gives everyone enough time to complete the process without creating an unnecessary last-minute rush.
Once your evaluation and required testing are complete, our healthcare professionals will review your results and provide the appropriate report to your surgeon. If something needs further attention, our team can help determine the next steps before your clearance is completed.
